A Statement from Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute (HKPORI)
on a Police Search of PORI’s Office on 6 January 2021
and the Taking Away of Data

1 April 2021

Hong Kong Public Opinion Research Institute (HKPORI) provides the following statement to update the public on the seizure by the Hong Kong Police of certain data from HKPORI, and how we will follow up with the Police on the handling of these materials.

HKPORI, with the assistance of its legal team, is in the process of working out a joint inspection protocol with the Department of Justice (DOJ) regarding the inspection of the Seized Materials.

We are advised by Counsel that the Search Warrants did not authorize the Police to seize journalistic materials from HKPORI.

The DOJ disagreed with our position. They are, however, willing to temporarily refrain from unsealing and/or opening the journalistic materials for the time being pending joint inspection of the Seized Materials.

HKPORI will work with its professional legal team (which is highly experienced in this matter) and keep the public informed from time to time.
